Identity politics and wokeness ruin satire — Andrew Doyle

Titania McGrath was created as social commentary on identity politics and social justice culture. And it is absolutely hilarious.

He created the satirical Twitter/X character Titania McGrath in 2018 as a way to poke fun at the excesses of online social justice culture and wokeness.

As a millennial icon on the forefront of online activism, I am uniquely placed to guide you through the often bewildering array of concepts that constitute contemporary ‘wokeness’. To put it bluntly, I am a much better person than you.

— Titania McGrath

She presents as a po-faced, virtue-signalling activist, self-described as an 'ecosexual radical intersectionalist poet', who tweets in a deadpan style that's so extreme it becomes hilariously absurd.

If you don't want to be censored, don't say the wrong things. It really is that simple.

— Titania McGrath

Despite being a parody, some people initially believed (and still believe) Titania was real, which Andrew has noted adds another layer to the satire.

She's since 'authored' books and even appeared in live shows, all part of the joke. The whole thing is meant as a critique of progressive trends through irony and exaggeration, which is lost on many.

There’s a simple formula. If it entertains, it’s entertainment. If it doesn’t, it’s art.
