Robin Monotti on winning battles through music

Music is a universal language understood by all. It's a powerful tool for change that can soften the hardest hearts.

This episode with architect, musician, and filmmaker Robin Monotti covers several connected ideas about society and resistance. People are rightly getting worried about digital ID, knowing that the oligarchs will use these systems to control citizens.

In the Asch conformity experiments, people were asked to judge the length of lines—something with an obvious, correct answer. These experiments showed some striking things about human behaviour.

Asch Conformity Line Experiment
The Asch paradigm was a series of conformity experiments by Solomon Asch designed to investigate how social pressure from a majority group could influence an individual to conform.

But when surrounded by a group giving the wrong answer, about one third of people went along with the crowd even though they knew it was wrong. Over three quarters of participants conformed at least once, whilst only a quarter never gave in to group pressure.

Robin stresses that music and art have real power to challenge the status quo and create social change.

That's what this podcast episode is about.

Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.
