After 1945, the United States moved into the space left by the European empires. Washington wanted the copper, the cobalt, the gold and the uranium. Any new African leader who wanted a bigger share for his own people had to be managed, bought or removed.

The CIA was the tool.

It is an arm of the White House, and the White House answers to the banks. Philip Agee agrees, in Inside the Company:

The CIA is not now nor has it ever been a central intelligence agency. It is the covert action arm of the President's foreign policy advisers.
