During September 2025, I spent a few weeks travelling across China, from Shanghai in the east to Kashgar in the west, and while in Kashgar, I sat down in a restaurant with Pepe Escobar.

Pepe is a Brazilian journalist and independent geopolitical analyst focused on Eurasia (Central Asia) and the Global South (countries generally considered to be economically underdeveloped or developing).
He serves as a columnist at The Cradle and editor-at-large at Asia Times.
Since the mid-1980s, he has lived and worked as a foreign correspondent in locations including London, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, Singapore, and currently Bangkok. He has authored numerous books and is a frequent commentator on various news channels.
I have taken many bullets over the years, simply for challenging bad ideas, but I'm still here, thanks to decent people supporting my work. Please help me fight the good fight by donating or becoming a paid subscriber.
