I no longer draw for pretty much any mainstream publication, mostly because they've all fired me. I would again, if an opportunity arose—but only if my principles aren't compromised.
And honestly, I've largely stopped focusing on South African current affairs—they're utterly boring and somewhat inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
Nonetheless, choice is a great thing, and there's room for those interested in what doesn't interest me—that's where Dave Doubell comes in.

I drew for the Daily Friend for a few years before they fired me, opening up a spot for Dave—which he took.
As I explained in our live stream below, I was fired—not for my cartoons, but for my podcast, specifically for hosting guests who question the official Holocaust narrative, like Jewish historian Norman Finkelstein and German biochemist Germar Rudolf.
Neither of us could recall the year, but I have a feeling it was 2021, since that was when Norman appeared on my podcast.

About a year after I lost my position, I went on a boys' hunting weekend where the then-head of the Daily Friend was present. So I made a toast to him for sacking me, thanking him for freeing me from the shackles of mainstream narratives.
Dave, cartoons, and coffee
We met up at a coffee shop and riffed on anything and everything.
Dave's cartoons can now be found in a few publications, not just the Daily Friend. His style is very approachable and distinctive, and his square format is unusual—the latter being something I asked him about in our conversation.
Overall, Dave is on the right side of history, and is a helluva nice guy. I'm glad we did the recording in person (and I hope to do another).
